Social Security and Work

In 2025, 151,014 emergency food parcels were distributed to children in London by food banks in the Trussell community, more than double the pre-pandemic figures. (Trussell, 2026) And many thousands more have been distributed by other independent food aid providers. In this section we look at what is needed to reform social security systems at national and local level to make significant progress in tackling child poverty in London. We also consider the actions required to support families to access high quality and fairly paid work.

4in10 member organisations who have helped develop these calls to action include Trussell, Z2K, Child Poverty Action Group, Working Families, and Sustain.
